Diego w.p.

Myspace info:
my name is diego and i spent most of my teenage years playing in hardcore/punk bands, trying to skateboard and playing video games. ok, i won't lie to you, i still do all those things and i still suck at skateboarding. anyway, here you'll find the songs that i make and that aren't compatible with none of my other bands/projects. to do not leave it forgotten i created this page. hmm, i think it's kind of a solo project.. yeah, we can call it that way! at first i used a 4-track cassette recorder but now i'm using a little more than four tracks on a computer. yeah, yeah, i know, not classy at all, but it work$ fine for me. damn, i gotta say, it's 3am and i just discovered that, besides skateboarding, i also suck at making band bios. i'm sorry for that..

i hope you liked what you heard here. thank you for listening.

Buford Blue

An old progressive emo/indie band from Hillsborough, NJ.
Ex members of Buford Blue (vocalist included) are back together and writing under the name “Ink and Boater”. They’ll be recording this Fall. Expect an Ink and Boater page to pop up on last.fm in the coming months. It should sound similar, but fresher, as they’ve all gotten better at their instruments. (Last.fm info)

J. Marinelli: guitar
Dean Taormina: the bass
Josh Deutsch: guitar

Samuel was a band from state college, pennsylvania. They were active in the mid-1990's, releasing two 7" ep's (self titled and lives of insects) on the label art monk construction. The band also released a split 7" with texas is the reason on the then brittish label simba. Samuel definitely played among the crowd of mid-90's 'post hardcore' or 'emo' bands. However, their sound probably owed as much to more straight forward 'indie rock' as it did to any of the member's hardcore roots.

The lives of insects ep was released on a cdep with two additional songs. (Last.fm)

The Brightest Comet

Pulling influences from the rock of Superchunk and Versus, the pop of Velocity Girl and the vocal beauty of Ida, Pohgoh remains, to this day, the quintessential female-fronted indie-rock band from “Emo’s” hey-day.

February 1994, Kobi, Matt and Brad form Pohgoh, with Keith joining on drums later in the Spring. They’re young, they’re having fun, they do two tours of the Eastern U.S. and release 3 records (all singles). Each set contains great hooks, lots of dancing and plenty of show ending noise. In November 1995, Kobi decides to leave for personal reasons.

January 1996, the boys recruit Susie, from Tampa’s Stitch. They’re still young, they’re still having fun, and they do one six week tour of the Eastern U.S., release 2 singles (one w/ our friends, Braid!), a full length and a song on Volume 1 of the “Emo Diaries” series. Each set contains lots of guitar, more great hooks, and still plenty of show ending noise.

Pohgoh bids farewell in a tear-filled final show on 2/21/98.

“All Along” is a 19 song discography containing every song ever released by the band during their 4 year career (1994-1998). Completely Re-Mastered, this disc includes Friend X from Volume 1 of the popular “Emo Diaries” series, the entire “In Memory of Bab” full length, Goodnight, Sweetheart from their split 7” with Braid, early rare releases featuring original vocalist Kobi and more!

UPDATE: In October of 2001, Susie was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She asks that you take the time to visit www.nmss.org.

On December 25, 2005, Pohgoh reunited for a one-night-only performance (along with other long-defunct Tampa greats Tomorrow, My Own America and Scrog) raising money to benefit the local chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

After quite a wait, the album is out. Of course, as these things go, Pohgoh have now been broken up for about a year or so, but that doesn't stop the album from being amazing and wonderful. Fantastic melodies grace indie/emo pop with strong, sweet, memorable female vocals. Ten great songs -- the kind that give you chills -- that are filled with subtly catchy guitar interplay, honest emotions, great hooks, and a nostalgic aire of melancholy.

Pohgoh stood out as one of Florida's best bands, and this shows exactly why. They will be missed, but at least we have this. Highly recommended. Outback Entertainment Group, P.O. Box 780132, Orlando, FL 32828

Copper

Copper was an emo or emocore band based in Buffalo, NY in the mid-1990s. They released a self-titled 7-inch in 1994 before releasing a full-length album, Drag Queen, in 1994. Upon their break-up, Klahn joined Texas Is the Reason while Ball moved to California to form Idle Hands, who were signed to Trustkill Records.

Project Kate

Project Kate was a short-lived, New York-based project that centered around Kate Reddy, one-time guitarist for Hare Krishna-inspired hardcore band 108, that included many East Coast hardcore scene notables. Project Kate songs were acoustically driven, laid-back ballads expressing Reddy’s private thoughts on her parents, marriage, spirituality, and love. Reddy recorded the album while eight months pregnant — and the love, warmth, and affection she felt for her soon-to-be expanding family is evident throughout the simple, yet heartfelt, recordings. Reddy began playing acoustic guitar with her friend Shannon in Shannon’s dad’s basement in 1987. But the Project Kate concept never formally materialized until 1991, when she began jamming with the then-Quicksand rhythm section of drummer Alan Cage and bassist Sergio Vega, who himself would go on to release solo material in 2000. They jokingly referred to what they were doing as “Kate” as they goofed around in a basement rehearsal space. The trio recorded three songs for free in July 1991 at Centerfield Studio. That fall, Reddy recorded a song called “California” by herself at the same place. Around this time, Quicksand signed to a major label and began touring and recording with far more regularity, so Project Kate fell apart. Reddy joined the Hare Krishna organization and eventually the band 108, married Equal Vision Records owner Steve Reddy, and began running the label with him. The two of them decided they wanted to release the Project Kate demo, but it was lost. Original engineer Mike Maineiri would later find the tape behind a dresser during a move, but before that happened, Kate Reddy had already assembled a new version of Project Kate and re-recorded three of the original songs, along with five new ones, in December of 1995 and January of 1996. These recordings, made with producer Ray Martin, surfaced as the album …The Way Birds Fly in 1996. the album carries a dedication to newborn baby Kaulini Reddy in the liner notes. The other musicians involved included then-Texas Is the Reason/later New End Original guitarist Norman Arenas (on the track “Simon Says”), bassist Vega, drummer John K., and violin player Ida Pearle. Texas Is the Reason/New Rising Sons frontman Garret Klahn was also involved to some degree.

Sealucky

They only released an demo tape recorded in the Brockmeyer family basement. Prior to the formation of the band, these guys played in the following bands:
Joey Mapes - Founding member and original drummer of Ordination of Aaron. Also played in the bands Anthem and Union (later he played drums for Stanley’s Joyful Noise whose members Tim Nordwind and Andrew Duncan went on to form the band OK Go).
Josh Brockmeyer - Founding member and drummer for the hardcore band Jihad
Christopher Sprague - Founding member of Constantine Sankathi and later, Crimson Curse and Tristeza.
Ian Piirtola: Founding member and drummer of Constantine Sankathi. (Last.fm)

Allure

Allure was a short-lived emo band in the mid 1990s, similar to bands such as Indian Summer. Their only official release was the song Little Engine, which appeared on the Eucalyptus 2 x 7” Compilation (Tree Records, 1996). They have also released a demo cassette with 7 Untitled songs. (Lastfm)

Bells on Trike

The indie-emo scene of the mid to late 90's had quite a large batch of excellent bands, but few were around long enough to make a substantial discography, and sometimes weren't even substantial in the underground. Mid-western pioneers Cap'n Jazz made a rather large impact in the underground years later, thanks to their full discography released on Jade Tree records. To a smaller extent, even PA band Elliott were able to release a few important Eps before disbanding. Ethel Meserve contemporaries, Bells on Trike didn't stick around enough to make a large impression, but their single 10" was one of the better releases at the time.Melody was always driving the band and it shows with the often simple, and clean guitar riffs that drove the band on songs like "I Drive", which begins with an almost dream-like intro of guitar and bass dynamics that’s repeated several times in the song. Like most bands, the vocals are low in the recording, and minimal. However they still manage to be equally important due to the very emotional way they write and play. Of course, singer Bryan Hoffa is no vocal expert, but the point is that the vocals fit well with the often minimal musical technicality to create their musical harmony. Hoffa preforms best when the band is melodic; when the band goes into slightly heavier rhythms, his vocals become much hoarser than the usual band's screams, so they sometimes become dull when pushed with the potentially powerful, instrumentation.Ahh but this band carves out some of the most beautiful melodies I've heard. Spread out across the record, guitar and bass are woven together and help keep the melody soulful, and often powerful. Their melodies picture the emotions perfectly, and go hand-in-hand with minimally written lyrics like "we're not getting younger" and "tell me what I haven't done/is it wrong?" The minimal vocals and the melodic yet, still often powerful instrumentation might give the impression of a post-rockesque feel, but the band’s melodies are usually too short and to the point. They stay soulful and emotional through that simplicity, instead of trying to avoid extended melodies and progressions. During the opening of the beautiful "Appartus Must be Earthed", the instrumentation, especially the bass work, give a very interesting earthy vibe, which soaks right in with their un-distorted guitar work. The aforementioned drum work is actually the most chaotic point of focus on the record. Brimming with cymbal crashes and such it keeps the melodic side from going too lush, and helps the chaotic side keep a slightly hidden, but ever present beat. Unlike bands who used deep bass rolls to keep the music at sugar-high levels of adrenaline, Bells were more interested in high level cymbal crashes to actually give some chaos. Because Trike was more interested in melodies, than high energy via' Cap'n Jazz.So with all things considered, the band was a trademark mid 90's band which could have been part of their demise and further unintrest in the band. While all these band made great music, there were so many bands at such a short time. So it was hard to keep track of them and even let the bands make an extended discography. This self-titled 10" gem was the band's only, and it is often swept away in the many similiar releases by similarly excellent bands. (sputnik)
